Ideas are generated together with the project stakeholders, like users, engineers, investers, etc.
Ideas become concepts of which one is chosen to further elaborate. This can be done with sketches, computer drawings, calculations and mock-ups can be build for interactions.
Concepts become designs which are drawn in 3D-CAD programs and can be used for discussion, simulation, analysis and 3D-printing. Using 3D-printing early in the design process allows to touch and feel the results and make them fit together.
Design becomes a prototype created with rapid prototyping techniques like laser-cutting and 3D-printing. Prototypes can be used as a technical model for testing or as a model for user interactions and visualization.
